Point at the box or the asset tag. Captured instantly, offline, at no cost. Works in a basement with no signal.
Serial number labels
Photograph the nameplate and your phone reads it. No network, no account, nothing leaves the device.
The difficult ones
Etched metal, curved surfaces, tiny type. Smart scan reads the label properly and tells you which characters it was unsure about, so a 0 never becomes an O on a claim form.
A list doesn't get paid. A document does.
When you file a claim, an adjuster wants proof you owned it, proof of what you paid, proof of condition, and serial numbers for the police report. Most inventory apps give you item names and a photo.
Proof of ownership, per item

Log a service, set an interval, and the reminder arrives when it is due. A documented service history also supports the item's condition when you claim.
Backups you can actually restore
Versioned backups to your own iCloud or Google Drive, encrypted before they leave your phone. "It is all on my device" is no comfort when the device was in the house.
We cannot read your inventory.
That is a design decision, not a policy promise. Your inventory lives on your phone in an encrypted database, and backups are encrypted on the device before they are uploaded, with a key we never receive. There is no website where you can browse your belongings, because there is no copy for us to show you.
The one exception, stated plainly: if you choose smart scan on a label your phone cannot read, that single photograph is sent to be read and is not kept. It is opt-in every time, and you can switch it off completely in settings.
