What happens when the trial ends
You keep everything you entered. Every item stays readable, and you can still produce the PDF or the spreadsheet whenever you need it — including years later, on the day you actually have to file a claim. Exports are free on every plan for exactly that reason. Locking someone out of records they built themselves would be indefensible for any app, and particularly for one whose whole purpose is being there when something has gone wrong.
Four things stop: adding new items, smart scan, warranty and maintenance reminders, and — the one that matters most — your backup updating.
The backup freezes exactly as it was on the day the subscription ended. Anything you add or change afterwards exists only on your phone. Cancel in March, have a fire in December, and the backup is missing nine months: the new television, the replaced appliances, all of it.
That is the honest case for subscribing continuously rather than a month here and there. An inventory is only worth what it is worth on the worst day, and a backup that stopped matching your house nine months ago is not much use on that day.
Why a subscription at all
A fair question, and the honest answer is that two parts of this genuinely cost money every month.
Smart scan runs on hardware we pay for per use. And two things only have value while they are running: your backup, which is worthless the moment it stops matching what you own, and the reminders — warranty expiries, maintenance due dates — which are no use in arrears.
A one-time purchase buys a one-time product. This one has to still be right in three years, on the day it actually matters.
