Everything here exists to serve one of three jobs: get the inventory built, get a claim paid, or keep the record worth having a year from now.
Getting it built
The reason home inventories get abandoned is data entry. This is where the work went.

On-device label reading
Photograph a nameplate and your phone extracts the text. No network and no account needed — useful in a garage or a storage unit with no signal.
Smart scan for hard labels
Etched metal, curved surfaces, glare, four-point type. It also works out which string is the serial rather than the model, part, or FCC number — the part ordinary text recognition cannot do.
Ambiguity you can correct in one tap
Worn labels confuse 0 with O, 1 with I, 8 with B. When a character is uncertain you are told which one, instead of finding out when a claim is rejected.
Rooms, containers, categories
File by where it is and what it is, independently. Then filter by both at once — "tools, in the garage" is one search.
Up to four photos an item
Compressed on the device so a few hundred items still fit comfortably in a free cloud tier.
Filed twice, found once
A category says what a thing is; a location says where it lives. They are separate on purpose, because the answer to "what did I lose in the garage fire" and the answer to "what jewellery do I own" are different questions and one hierarchy cannot serve both.
Eight categories are there from the start, so the first evening of cataloguing is not also an exercise in inventing a filing system. Rename them, delete them, add your own — and anything you would rather not file at all can simply stay unfiled.
Getting a claim paid
Proof-of-ownership PDF
Per item: photographs, serial number, purchase date and price, replacement and cash value, service history. Formatted to be printed and handed to an adjuster.
Room-by-room PDF
Grouped by location with a subtotal for each room and a total at the end. Or scoped to a single room.
Spreadsheet export
Every field, one row per item, with money as real numbers so it sorts and totals properly in Excel or Numbers.
Replacement vs. cash value
Recorded separately and shown together, because the gap between them is what a cash-value policy will not pay.
Grab-and-go list
Flagged items on one screen that works with no signal and no battery to spare.
Everything works offline
Reading, adding, editing, and exporting need no connection. The app cannot lock you out of your own records.

Warranty reminders
Thirty days before expiry, so there is time to use it.
Maintenance logs and reminders
Record a service, choose an interval, get reminded. Doing the work again clears the old reminder rather than nagging you about something already done.
Encrypted backups to your own cloud
Your iCloud or your Google Drive, in your own storage. Encrypted on the phone first, so the file is unreadable to anyone including us.
Automatic and versioned
Backups run in the background and keep previous versions, so a mistake is recoverable rather than instantly propagated.
A recovery key that is yours
Shown once at setup and needed to restore onto a new phone or move between iPhone and Android. We do not have a copy, which is the point.
